Guided reviews: drawings, voice notes and captions on the moments you choose, with an optional "Got it"
Review
A guided review is the coach's lesson on top of a clip: a set of keypoints — moments in the video — each carrying a drawing, a voice note and/or a caption. When the athlete watches, the clip plays, freezes at each keypoint to replay the coach's drawing with their voice, and continues. On keypoints the coach chose to gate, playback waits for the athlete to tap Got it.
Guided reviews are the moment coaching value is created; everything else in Surflink orbits them.
Record a review on the web
- Open the analyzed session and click Review to enter review mode.
- Surflink offers to pre-seed keypoints from the measured ride windows (no model call — each suggested keypoint is a ride start). Keep, edit or delete them.
- Add your own keypoints by pausing on a moment. For each one you can:
- Draw on the frame (strokes replay as an animation for the athlete),
- record a voice take,
- write a caption,
- tick Ask for a Got it here — only gated keypoints pause the athlete; every other keypoint plays straight through.
- Tag focus areas — the themes this review works on. They roll up on the athlete's Progress page as working on it → improving → resolved.
- Publish. The athlete is notified (Guided review ready); if it sits unwatched, a daily nudge goes out once.
Voice notes are transcribed for the athlete's captions when a Gemini key is configured; if transcription fails, the review still publishes and your typed captions stand. No video is ever sent to a language model.
Record a review on the iPhone
The phone is the canonical authoring surface: open a clip in the library, choose Review, pause on a moment, draw with your finger, hold to record a voice note, and publish. The same keypoint model, gating and focus areas apply.
What the athlete sees
The published review is the front door of that session for the athlete — on the web (/athlete/sessions/[id]), on the iPhone and on a paired Apple TV. Each keypoint card shows the drawing animating over the frozen frame with the voice note; gated keypoints show a Got it button. The athlete can reply with a voice note on a keypoint, and you are notified (Review reply). Receipts record what they watched and acknowledged.
See Watch for the playback side.
